I couldn’t get hold of The Pink Stuff one day so I grabbed Elbow Grease paste as a substitute. Bad swap. Here’s why.
The Pink Stuff — My Regular Go-To
I use this every day professionally and there’s a reason for that. It’s thick — properly thick. You can hold the pot upside down and it won’t move. That consistency matters inside an oven because it clings to the surface, dwells, and cuts through grease after you’ve done your initial scrape down. A 500g pot it goes a long way too. It just works. Every time.
Elbow Grease Paste — Not For Me
Runny. That’s the main thing. I actually knocked the pot over on the job and it ran straight out — try that with The Pink Stuff and nothing happens. That’s the difference right there.
It’s not a terrible product — it did an okay job — but okay isn’t good enough when you’re doing this every day. It was smaller, cost about £1.50, didn’t go as far, didn’t perform as well, and made a mess when I knocked it over. Nothing about it made me want to buy it again.
Bottom Line
If you use The Pink Stuff, don’t bother switching. And if you’ve never tried it, start there — you won’t look back.
